H3Vy i$ Wth_You: A Linkin Park Mashup

Reading Time: 3 minutes

Right. Before I get to posting the track (Unless you just want to scroll), there’s a couple of back stories to this.

First of all, I made this as soon as Heavy Is The Crown from the From Zero Album was released, which was before the actual album itself. It was released early in order for it to be used as a part of the League of Legends World Finals, where the band played the song live as part of the team intros, and also the music video was LoL inspired. As soon as I heard it, I had the intro of Wth>You from Reanimation stuck in my head to add some depth to the opening 30 seconds, and it kinda worked from there. It was a bit of a pain in the arse getting the audio and lyrics split, but someone had uploaded the stems halfway through me doing it myself, and of course the band has since released all the instrumentals and vocal isolated tracks from the album.

It was about halfway through the project that I decided to move from having Wth>You lyrics intermarried on the track, to moving from one ‘song’ to another. I actually love the transition, including the tempo change, which is also part of the reason why I have two ‘This is what you ask for’ screams, otherwise it would end up being a 30+ second long scream, which is just unnatural. The scream on the actual track is 17 seconds long, compared to 18 seconds on Given Up (Minutes to Midnight), and I wanted it to sound somewhat natural, although you can tell I’ve stretched the audio out a bit. Maybe a bit of distortion on V2?

My other issue was actually finding a way to upload this thing. I thought it would be a simple case of uploading to Dropbox, and sharing the clip as an MP3, which WordPress automatically embeds. In the olden days, that would work. But these days, there is an authentication stem after the .mp3, which means that embedding doesn’t really work. There is an Integrate Dropbox plugin available, which can work, for the price of $30 a year. No thank you!

Soundcloud won’t allow you to upload this at all, as too much copyright. Audio.com similar issues. YouTube Music will allow it to be uploaded, but seemingly not shared. It finally occurred to me that I could chuck the audio onto iMovie, use an image I’d made as the background, and act like it’s 2010 all over again. I’d actually done the same thing with my ESPN Monday Night Football and College Football Playoff videos I’d clipped almost a decade ago, you just stop using certain practices after a while (Like when I had to use an outdated, unsupported version of Internet Explorer in order to upload more than one file at a time to Module Boxes for 4 years as a university lecturer.

Anyway. Track is below. If you want to download it, you can do so here. If you want some cover art to go with it, you can download that here.
