Truth be told, I never expected to be a commentator, let alone one who had the privilege of helping to shape Sim Racing into a broadcasted Esport. Though some aspects of my life have led itself to public talking, this wasn’t a world I was designed / trained for, so call it learning on your feet, and livin’ on a wing and a prayer.
I started life in media at Scratch Radio, the university’s student radio station. I was lucky enough to learn the fundamentals of working in a media environment without a media degree, including anchoring the breakfast show for media students’ two week live radio final year project in 2011.
I ended up commentating on Sim Racing by a mixture of necessity and determination to live out a childhood dream. It started in response to tragedy, in the aftermath of the death of Dan Wheldon in 2011, and expanded rapidly between 2012 and 2016. I have commentated on many of iRacing’s top level series and special events, and have had the chance to work with clients including Porsche, BMW, Mazda, Hyundai, ESL, and so many more. I took a break from commentary between 2020 and 2024 to reflect on my journey, and how I want to contribute to the Esports broadcasting ecosystem moving forward. Don’t worry, 2025 will see a return!
I’m a registered NUG / IFJ journalist. My journalism work focuses on live and long-form reporting on motor racing events with a particular emphasis on Sim Racing Esports, as well as utilising mixed research methods for investigative reporting on societal issues often under-reported on a regional and national level.
I hope to develop my journalism work further over the next few years by utilising my research and analytical skills to provide a far deeper research content pool for those wishing to curate Sim Racing Esports content, as well as expanding my writing to cover more content on mental health, student accommodation patterns, and quality of public / social housing.
