Behind Brown Eyes is my life story. Right now, I’m a 30-something year old living in the West Midlands of the UK. I’ve been through enough highs and lows in life that I’ve been told by too many people that I should just get it down on paper. A stint in an acute mental health hospital provided the catalyst to start, and though it’s been a struggle at times, I’ve gotten to the point where I’ve been able to relive the first phase of my life; through childhood, school, the military, chaotic lows, police stupidity, homelessness, and occasionally being able to grasp some of life’s brass rings.
My story is one that I doubt anyone will believe is true. But it all is. This is my crazy, messed up story, and I’ve written it so that others may look back at their own lives and see just how you can slowly put things into context, or even take a completely tongue in cheek look in the past: After all, if you’re still breathing, you’re still going, and you’ve not completely lost. This has become a form of self-therapy, and you know what, I’m damn proud to be able to look back and think ‘Well, I somehow managed to survive that’.
A fair warning to start. Some of the things that I’ll be writing will shock, perhaps even scare some people. I’m not here looking for sympathy, as I don’t see myself as a SPARE, but I want to be as honest as open as I possibly can. For the sake of everyone, I’ve triedto anonymise as much as I can. This is not about dragging individual names through the mud, and even though there may be someone one day who reads this who identifies as a *character* in this long, rambling monologue, please know that I am doing all I can to keep this about life experiences, and nothing else.
I’m in the very last stages of proof reading this, and unless there’s a monumental cock up, this will be going live on November 28th, as an Ebook and paperback on Amazon. This covers my life from Birth until September 2009, when despite the odds, I became a university student at Birmingham City University.
This will take you, my dear reader through my time as a student at Birmingham City University, meeting people who would shape my life for years to come, and what would end up being a dual profession for the following 10 years: Being a boring Town Planner / Student Experience ‘Person’ / Junior Academic, and learning how to talk incoherently into a microphone, going to random parts of the world in the process.
This takes me through to today, with the highs and lows experienced sometimes in unison, and often in a tangled ball of personal hell. If I make it this far, it’ll bring my life bang up to date, with some deeply personal stories of fighting my deamons, and finding solace in others along the way.

The links for the paperback version should be ready by Tuesday 20th November.
Pre – orders for a special Ebook / print version of Volume 1: A Journey into Adulthood, at Full Throttle, will (Hopefully) be available by the end of November. Ebooks will be sent out before Christmas (In case you have nothing better to do), and paperback copies should be available around new year. The only difference is that P&P will apply to paperback copies, however in exchange you will get a personalised message as a thank you for supporting my work.
If you’re looking forward to the future and want to support my endeavours, you can also buy me a nice cuppa. I’ve not really asked for money for stuff that I do, but because I’ve been off ill for so long, I’m not really getting much of the sweet sweet Khauna in the back pocket at the moment, but it also allows me to test the waters as to if there is the chance to go fully freelance.
There are also membership options available, partially as it means that I not only have to meet obligations to others, I can turn the bloody heating on once in a while!!! Some of these will come with discounts for for a special ‘Non Amazon’ version of each volume of ‘Behind Brown Eyes’, including personalised signed copies and Ebooks you can read outside of Kindles. Whilst Mr Bazos is a convenient option, I know how to work around him too!

I’m a thirty-something year old with a constant identity crisis and a diverse range of skills. I have a BSc and MA in Town Planning, have been working in academia for 10 years in some capacity, and have been an Esports commentator / journalist for about the same length in time. Somehow, I’m also officially a published author, and have contributed to journals and publications in student experience & Higher Education.
